"if you could choose to have any superpower, what would it be?"
I don't remember every answer I've given to that question,
but I do know not all superpowers are fun
and there's always a chance
you won't be free to choose
which one you get.
I know, because I didn't get to choose my superpower.
sometimes it has a name, a face,
sometimes it is without these.
sometimes it floats untethered within
until the years are strung together
and the sun comes out.
entineri: a collection of poems like photos almost memories
forests and valleys, mountains and deserts, waters narrow and wide,
the land seemed boundless.
people gathered in pockets and corners,
a fishing village edging the ocean,
communities dotting the glens,
and vibrance nestled in canyon walls.
leaders rose up, some acquiring vast swaths of nature.
tensions and conflicts were fought and settled,
the land became divided.
Donnie was a very theatrical squirrel who one could say was both strange and normal, whimsical
and staid. His best friend was Tolson the skunk and together they had many adventures across the
forests and fields. Sometimes the pair would ride down the rivers on a raft made from birch bark,
other days they traversed the corn fields by flying from stalk to stalk. They had many wonderful
times together. Then one day, everything changed.
I stand for courage.
I am not ignorant of fear,
it is inevitable, but I will not be ruled by it.
I will not always agree with others, but I can still work with them.
I have learned when humans live together
there is the possibility of conflict
but I want to learn ways to resolve it
by connecting with others who are different than myself.
