The Search

You are looking for the old you,
the whole you,
ignoring the new you,
but what are you missing?

Here, now,
you are shattered into pieces,
and you recoil.

Are you not
still you
in all these pieces?

You now have more edges,
but need they be sharp?

Rather,
could they be smoothed with love?

Can you love yourself
in all these pieces?

And maybe,
through you showing them love,
these pieces will come together.

Perhaps,
by looking to be a past you,
and in not acknowledging the new you,
you put off
saying goodbye to the old you.

As long as you are looking
you will miss it,
and you may grieve,
but is the past you
the only you
worthy of love?

Can you love yourself
through your changes?

Or can you only love yourself -
from ten years ago,
or with nostalgia,
or with anger,
or with fear?

You want to keep loving,
you want to keep being,
the old you.

But is the old you
the only whole you?

What are you missing?
