"I'm sorry," the squirrel said to the tree, "you will only ever be a shrub to me, because you were the height of one when I met you. you can't change the past."
with a mingling of hurt and shock, the tree responded; "why yes, that is the height I was when you met me - but what of all the growing I've done to reach the height I am now? doesn't that matter?"

the squirrel considered this for a moment then replied; "I'm just not ready to see that yet. It will take me awhile to stop seeing you as a shrub."

then the squirrel scampered away along the tree's branches and on to the other Sequoias in the forest.
