Sill

my reading of "sill" -



And then I too,
(halfway across the ocean and sinking),
recalled that day
(the one we spent entirely alone -
dark room lit 
singularly by a lantern in the corner 
misty clouds through window seeped).

And then I too,
saw for once
what you always said existed
somewhere beyond the stormy sea -
an island.

And then I too,
(one day would find it),
- memory jarred 
as I crashed the sinking vessel
on those rocky shores.

And then I too,
at the first sandy expanse
stuck in a pole
upon which fluttered
my white flag.

And then I too,​
