What about the concept of "embarking" currently resonates with you?
First, certain new beginnings come to mind. We recently took a road trip to visit family and friends. Our visit even included a special holiday gathering. Our time together was filled with fun conversations, silliness, and laughter. We took new routes and revisited familiar trails. And we returned home to new opportunities awaiting us for autumn.
Second, certain recent goodbyes come to mind. One of my former music teachers passed away this month. He was a dedicated musician with a big heart whose impact was felt in New England and beyond. He was authentic in how he communicated with others. He also helped others identify and appreciate their own potential. Saying goodbye to him has been difficult for all of us who knew him. There was a tribute for him, where people gathered in-person and through livestream. During the tribute, people shared music and memories. It was a time to remember how he sought out things that made him smile, and a reminder for us to do the same. To paraphrase Sinatra: He lived a life so full, he travelled each and every highway, And more, much more than this, he did it his way.
How does this autumn feel different to you than previous ones?
This autumn feels different to me because it has now been over a year since I began taking medication. I was fortunate to have a knowledgeable and caring doctor who helped me explore my options. She patiently answered my questions and addressed my concerns. When I eventually chose to start medication, it was after much consideration and discussion.
When I think metaphorically of how medication helps my body, it is like this:
Without medication, it was like this was happening instead:
With the help of medication, the metaphorical leaves get to follow their intended path. This means they end up where they are needed. My body then uses these leaves to help me focus and feel calmer.
